About The Hope Cup
The Hope Cup was created to commemorate the philanthropic legacy of a devoted supporter of Magnolia Speech School, Wayne Parker, and his passion for education, children, and the outdoors. Wayne was deeply impressed when he visited the school over 15 years ago and witnessed firsthand how children with hearing impairments were learning to speak and listen. As a successful businessman, Wayne recognized the significance of the specialized education provided by the school and established a long-term scholarship program for families in need. The scholarship program continues to benefit students at Magnolia Speech School through the Parker LifeShare Foundation. Wayne’s legacy lives on at The Hope Cup with the winner being awarded the High Overall Wayne Parker Memorial Award.
Magnolia Speech School
Founded in l956 by pioneering speech pathologist Elizabeth Matthews, Magnolia Speech School was established to provide therapy services to children with speech and hearing impairments. Initially, the school operated as a part-time program out of Mrs. Matthews home, but as demand for services grew, the school expanded to include a full-time program and eventually moved to a larger facility in the heart of Jackson, Mississippi.
Today, Magnolia Speech School is recognized as a leading speech and hearing therapy provider in the region. It is known for its dedicated staff, evidence-based programs, and commitment to improving the lives of children with communication disorders. Its new campus officially opened in 2022 in Madison County and is outfitted with the latest technology and therapy programming to continue to give hope a voice for generations to come.
